2010: Selamat Hari Merdeka ke-53

Selamat Hari Merdeka! Happy Merdeka Day Malaysia.. Yang ke 53! Have to work today, oh well.. like I've never been working on public holiday before.. duh!! So what's the plan? No plan, finish work, go back home as usual. Hehe..

Normally, semua pejabat tutup hari ini. Tapi people yang support time zone negara lain, like US, UK, AUS and Norway kena kerja lah hari ini kan. Some of them got double or triple pay, but no not me. I claim cuti. Nak cover untuk cuti wedding nanti.

Oleh kerana merdeka jatuh bulan Ramadhan, rasanya sambutan tidak semeriah tahun-tahun lepas. I think no parade but fireworks maybe.

So to all Malaysian, no matter where you are.. SELAMAT HARI MERDEKA!!

Male Role Model

I read an article in The Star online, Parenthots section about 'Finding a mentor to provide a male role model'.

The question in that article was "I am a single mother with a five-year-old son. How can I raise him to be a healthy man who has a good masculine image?"

From my experience, being a single mother to a son at the age of 6.. well what can I say.. difficult, challenging and exhausting! Sometimes, I don't know what he really wants when he became aggressive and annoying. Maybe at times, I am being tired and did not focus on him and he being a bit naughty to get my attention. Oh well, I am to blame.

In the article also did mentioned, if the father is not accessible to him, a substitute must be found. Yes, I have my father, and my little brother but both of them are not always around, working on shift. So, my son was left alone playing lego and watching TV. Yeah, he's the lonely child. There are times, when he speaks and act like old man (membebel), especiall…

Hair Cut Day For My Boys

Finally, have some time to update my blog. Have another one hour to 'berbuka'. Today, the three of us went to Sunway Pyramid for hair cut and shopping. Reached there around 1PM. First stop is A Cut Above, my boys favourite hair cut shop. You'll know why later.

These were taken before the hair cut. Oh boy he was excited!

Syahmie: Mama, rambut Syahmie dah macam girl.

While waiting for his hair cut, daddy was sitting beside. At that time a leng lui (pretty lady) was shampooing his hair.

It was the first time after so long, cut his hair using the small machine. We were afraid he would scream (out loud) and cried. Surprisingly, he didn't. Of course he wouldn't. Pretty leng lui who was doing it duhhhhhh Yeah, same goes to daddy. What daddy has, wants.. me small boy wants too. They share the same hair dresser, leng lui. (I don't sound jealous am I??)

I didn't get this when I was SIX!!

Ok, I have asked the hair dresser to cut his hair really short so that it doesn't …

His Pain Vacation

My small man is really enjoying his 'vacation' these two weeks. He played with his lego, toys and also computer games until the PC went blank. Cannot on anymore (but today yes, it worked). So he continues playing it like usual.

He had this skin allergy which I don't really know to what. All I know, if he did not clean or wash his hands properly, he will easily get it. Last two weeks, he kept scratching his fingers until to the extend it bleeds. And yes it's hurting him. It spread to all his fingers and his toes. What I did was, wash with dettol (he screams) and put some baby lotion and aloe vera, but it did not help. So, I bring him to the clinic and doc gave some medicine. At night when he goes to sleep, I put it the medicine on his fingers and after a while he kept scratching. He cried.. uwaaaa! Poor my baby.

It does not affect all other parts of his body except fingers and toes. That is why I don't know if he eats something that makes him get it, or he touches som…

Honey and Pumpkin

Me: "Honey, I'm home."
Mr.Fruitheart: "Ok Pumpkin."

That would be my text message to Mr. Fruitheart whenever I reached home. Actually, I have started doing that long time ago. Couldn't remember when was the first time, and I find it sweet. Feels like he is already at home and would wait for me, or doing something. I imagined he would say something like, "I'm in the kitchen!" Very imaginative of me huh? Well, who knows.. it might happen.
And, sometimes he called me Pumpkin. (actually, just started) Let me tell you, it is all in text messages or YM only. Not in real face to face. Why? Ok, we have tried calling each other with all kinds of romantic nicknames.. we both laugh. So bad right? And, we stick to SAYANG. Short, simple and sweet!

Kurma.. Kismis.. Madu

Email was forwarded to me by my collegues.. benefits of kurma (dates), kismis (raisins) and madu (honey).

Sabda Rasulullah s.a.w.

What To Eat Today

I am sure not a day goes by that we haven't asked ourselves this question. Or we asked our mother, what are you going to cook today? Hehe.. At this point of time, ooouuhhh my tummy is rumbling *blush*. Sounds like a 6 year old complaining huh?

It's 14th day of Ramadhan, that means it has been 14 days Muslims fasting. Wow, time really went fast. Seems like yesterday only we had started fasting. Talking about yesterday, my mother cooked 'ikan kembung teocew' which we had not eaten loooooonnngggg time ago. Err.. no I don't fancy that much. And poor my small man, he so wanted to eat 'tomyam' which he just said it 10 minutes before we eat. So today I have promised him, I will bring him along when buying tomyam. Being a good mummy hehe.

I wonder what my mother will cook today? Chicken? Fish? Meat? Veggies yes of course. Suddenly, I am craving for sweet sour fish and 'nasi kandar'. Yummy!! I think I want to buy 'ice kacang' later.

So far I have 2 invi…

My Small Man vs Veggies

When I was a kid, I don't like to eat green veggies. Same goes to my small man. Now I know how hard my mother used to force me to eat those hehe.. Now it's my turn.

Me: Syahmie, makan sayur. Kan hari tu mase pegi klinik, doktor cakap nak cepat baik kene makan sayur.
(Syahmie, you have to eat veggies. Remember the doctor said, if you want to get better, you have to eat veggies)

Syahmie: Nanti hari Sabtu Syahmie makan lah.
(I will eat on Saturday)

Me: Tapi, hari ni dah hari Sabtu lah kan.
(But today is Saturday)

Syahmie: Bukan hari Sabtu ni lah mama, Sabtu jauh lagi.
(Not this Saturday mummy, the next next Saturday)

Me: OK.

My Cooking Plan

This morning, when I woke up.. I have made plans to be a chef and cook. I had open my 'cook book' and decided to cook tomyam. Around 10AM, together with my mother and my small man, we went to the market and bought all ingredients.

Reached home.. wash all the chicken, shrimp, squid and cut all the veggies.. keep them in the fridge. Later watched TV until I fall asleep. It was 5.00PM when I woke up and the tomyam is ready. My mother cooked it. There goes.. my beauty sleep had took me over for hours!

P/S: I always copied recipes from all over the Internet, but don't have the chance to cook.

Couples Theme Song

What is the best theme song for couples? The theme song that will remind you how beautiful your love story is. Hmm.. Few days back Mr. Fruitheart had asked me if we had our theme song. Err.. Do we need one? I asked him back. Hehe.. not romantic at all huh?? Well, he said was just asking. I told him, he had given me a song long time ago.. Sempurna by Andra and The Backbone.

It was a nice Indonesian song, the lyrics is nice. I do like it. I've asked him if it's describes us. He said, yes. Later he said, Cindai? I said, you got to be kidding me. Cindai is Dato' Siti Nurhaliza's song which is seriously not suitable for couple love song (in my opinion).

And he said, I like Justin Bieber more so we might need to choose another song (something like that). Excuse me, that is Syahmie ok, not me. (He will read this!!)

So this is how the lyrics goes..
Kau begitu sempurna
Dimataku kau begitu indah
Kau membuat diriku akan slalu memujimu

Disetiap langkahku
Kukan slalu memikirkan dirimu
Tak b…

Nasi Ambeng / Ambang

Haven't heard of it?? It is a traditional Javanese dish which is made famous by Malaysian of Javanese descent. 'Nasi ambang' or 'ambeng' (Javanese slang) is traditionally prepared by host family during 'tahlil' or for helpers at family wedding. It is very well known in the Javanese community. Still practise until now.

A serving of 'nasi ambeng' can feed a family of 4 or 5. It is a combination of rice, chicken (kicap or sambal),  fried noodle, fried fish, fermented soybeans, mixed veggie together with spicy dessicated coconut. Yummylicious I would say. It is served on a round tray (dulang) together with banana leaf. They would also prepared it with 'air basuh tangan' (water to wash hands), small cloth, banana leaf, paper and string which is later will be used to wrap the food.

Had not eaten it for quite sometime. Now craving for one.

My Friday

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you When you think everything's okay and everything's going right. And life has a funny way of helping you out when You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up in your face ~ Alanis Morissette
It's the 10th day of Ramadhan. I do feel exhausted and sleepy today. The gloomy whether, the very cold aircond makes it worse. Hmm.. nothing great to update today. I am still here at the same place, doing my work which will never finish.
There's nothing to update too about the wedding at the moment. Thought of going out again tomorrow to find my 'tudung'. We will see how's my mood for tomorrow. Right now, if only I could have a pillow and blanket.

Music: Raya Song - Dendang Perantau

Syukur alhamdulillah, today is the 9th day of Ramadhan. I have not missed any days yet. As usual, at this point of time 12:53 (while typing this entry), my stomach was growling. I think if my small man hears it, he would laugh loudly.. eh mama, perut rumbling.

Ok, in this entry actually I wanted to tell you one of my favourite Hari Raya song, which is Dendang Perantau by Tan Sri P. Ramlee. Enjoy!

Dendang Perantau

Di hari raya
Terkenang daku kepada si dia
Kampungku indah nun jauh di sana
Ayah serta bondaku

Di tepian mandi
Danauku hijau yang aman damai selalu
Nun di sanalah tempat aku bertemu
Aku dan dia

Apakan daya
Masa tak akan kembali
Hancur musnahlah semuanya

Impian yang murni
Tinggal menjadi kenang-kenanganku
Hanya rangkaian kata dan lagu
Dendang perantau

Favourite Kuih Raya

Even before Ramadhan started, some people are busy looking and ordering kuih raya. This year I did not buy any kuih raya, saving more for wedding. But, my father did ordered 5 boxes. Wohoo.. I hope he does not forget about pineapple tarts. My favourite!

Kuihs are an integral part of Malaysian festivities such as Hari Raya other than rendang, ketupat, lemang, lontong and kuah satay. Typing all these foods makes me hungry. There are various types of kuih raya, be it the traditional like kuih bahulu, kuih kapit, kuih bangkit.. or the modern one like almond london, crunchy oat choc, biskut badam and the list goes on.

So, what's your favourite kuih raya?

Mr. Fruitheart Turned 29

Today is Mr. Fruitheart 29th birthday. He is getting old right? I know he would say, look who's talking ;P Wished him happy birthday after 'sahur' and posted it in his facebook as well. Making his page merrier.

Told my small man about it and here is what he replied:
Mama: Syahmie, hari ni birthday daddy.
Syahmie: Mane boleh, puase kan mama. Nanti daddy tak puase tak dapat hadiah.
Mama: Malam kan boleh makan.
Syahmie: Nanti kek tak sedap.

Bertuah punye anak. Apa dia ingat daddy tu kalau puasa penuh dapat hadiah macam dia ke apa. Sorry my honey b pumpkin, no presents for you this year. Will try to fulfill your wish after 25th September and provided the ringgit is enough for me to buy 'the thing' for you. Also, there are no 'makan-makan' due to fasting month. Maybe we can do that after fasting month, celebrate at hotel or somewhere place nice.

Birthday Sayings in various language

Oh Monday! How Bad Can It Be

It's just not my Monday.. Not enough sleep, because my small man couldn't sleep peacefully.. he's been scratching his fingers and toes, yeah you can say that.. mosquitoes. Plus, his allergic-I-don't-know-to-what until his fingers and toes skin became red. Poor boy!

Next, I have to walked far to KL Monorail from KL Sentral because the Putra LRT had technical issues AGAIN!! This time even worse, 2 hours. Reached office 10 minutes after 8 (LATE!), they've changed my chair to the smelly and ugly purple color, and oh my goodness.. my table is so dusty. Have to find new chair and clean everything. What a morning. It's not even half day yet.

Later at noon, called the school for follow up to know if the cancellation letter is prepared, sadly NO. How bad can it be?

My Pictures of The Day

On early Sunday morning, atfer 'sahur' I couldn't sleep. Yes, I should started doing my chores, it's still 6.15 and dark. But, have done my laundry (into the washing machine of course.

Wanted to share my favourite pictures of my small man and Mr. Fruitheart. It was taken during our weekend outing to Port Dickson (PD), in Negeri Sembilan.

Food Review: Ramadhan Buffet at Intai Intai

Last Friday on the 3rd day of Ramadhan.. me and Mr. Fruitheart went to break fasting at Intai Intai Restaurant Ampang. I was looking for food review in at foodpoi page and this advertisement. Only RM48, caught my attention.

After consulting Mr. Fruitheart and google map the place, we agreed to go there. And oh yes, it's not a very wise decision to go there during bad traffic congestion and rain!! We stucked almost 3 hours, and reached there just in time. Poor Mr.Fruitheart who was driving a manual car.

I have updated the pictures on my page 'Food Lover'. Not many pictures on the food, all were almost finished. The buffet price from 1st - 7th Ramadhan is RM39.90 nett for adult, and RM20 nett for kids from the age of 5-12 years old. After that it would be RM48 nett for adult and RM25 nett for kids. They also have live band performance to entertain us. We couldn't believe there is nice place to eat at the hidden behind those shop lots. Yes, behind the Honda Showroom and fur…

Old Town White Coffee

Utusan Malaysia Online - Terkini

One of my favourite place to eat - Old Town White Coffee. We called it 'kopitiam'. There is one at Cyberjaya which is near to my ex-office. Used to go there during lunch, breakfast and dinner.. sometimes in one day I went there 3 times. If not having any meals, I like to sit there chit chatting with my colleagues while having my cold Oldtown white coffee, nice! Oh.. and their mee curry as well. Yummylicous! Not to forget, french toast.. and the list goes on.

There has been some issue with it's 'Halal' status sometime ago. People were afraid to go there and eat, and emails has been circulated about the food preparation about it's 'halal' status, the cleanliness etcs. I hope from now on, when this article/news came out.. would clear all doubt. Thank you to the Oldtown management for making this issue clear for us.

I don't have the picture of the place, maybe later I could paste it.

First Day at Bazaar Ramadhan

The next must have during fasting month is Bazaar Ramadhan. It is a month long bazaar open to the public. Some of the place is jammed packed with people of all races. Not only muslims buy food for their break fast, but also the non-muslims who wanted to join the crowd for delicious food which are not usually seen outside month of Ramadhan. See.. that is how 1Malaysia concept is practised.
Yesterday, I went to the bazaar at my place. First stop was near the usual market place. There were not much food offered, so I went to another place. This is the long and most crowded bazaar there. After I parked my car, I can smell the 'ikan bakar', 'murtabak' and 'ayam golek'. Oh so yummy!
We (my small man, my 2 sisters) walked from the starting point till the end.. So crowded. I managed to get 3 pictures! Hehe.. We wanted to find 'popia basah'. But, we could not find the usual stall. Maybe they didn't took part this year. How disappointing. My small man was looki…

RM1 Ticket

Once again, Air Asia is on SALES! RM1 flight ticket. I was just arrived at the office when Mr. Fruitheart told me about it. Wohoo.. so I told him, what are you waiting for?? Hehe.. So easily influenced with this sales and cheap things huh.. It is the month of SALES.. further markdown some more.

He did try to booked flight to KK, it's around RM500++ and if Bali around RM900++. That is excluding hotels and food and shopping. Quite cheap. He planned to go somewhere in March. Budget? Hmm... we can save but, we have already planned for holiday on December. Plus, someone might preggie at that time.

So anyone wants to go on vacation next year, go grab the hot tickets. Offer only 6 days. Keep in mind, the website might test your patience. SLOW!

Ramadhan Buffet

During this holy month of Ramadhan, there is one thing that would not be missed which is 'Ramadhan Buffet'. We can find everywhere, in the news papers, television or radio advertisement, lots of hotels would served all their yummylicous food for their customers to enjoy while break fasting (berbuka). The onyl different is the PRICE. It can go up to RM150 ++ per person!!

From my experience, I like the Ramadhan Buffet served at Pan Pacific Hotel KLIA. I have tried twice! As far as I remember, the price is about RM80 ++ per person. My sister used to worked there, so I can get her staff discounts hehe.. But, now not anymore. She changed her job. I am not sure the price for this year. It could go up. They served lamb meat, camel meat, kerabu, rendang, veggies (lots of style and taste) oh boy this just makes me drooling.. haha.. I better stop listing. Oh and yes, the pastries and not to forget.. chocolate fountain!

I have tried PJ Hilton, Sunway Pyramid, Palace of Golden Horses, Put…

First Half Day Fasting

Syukur alhamdulillah, I can still hold on this first half day of fasting. Although my tummy had played R&B song, I MUST hold on. Hehe.. sounds like a 6 years old huh.

Last night my small man told me that he has to start fasting so that later his teacher would give him presents. I have told him, if he can do it even for half day, I would give him money and chocolate (bribery??). Before I went to work, I made him bread toast and told him, he must eat first to keep him from feeling hungry. At 11.30, I called my mother and asked if he had eaten. Yes, he is having his 4 slices of bread!

Mama: Syahmie cakap nak puasa.
Syahmie: Tadi Syahmie buat keje banyak, pastu Syahmie lapar.. so Syahmie makan laa..

I am going try again tomorrow and we shall see what happen.

An Evening in Kuala Lumpur

As usual, Mr. Fruitheart was so nice sending me to KL Sentral. All below pictures were taken around 6PM to 7PM. It is normal seeing this traffic congestion after working hours. And, sometimes it's just not because of the a car breakdown.. the Malaysian drivers themselves...

Both of these pictures were taken along Jalan Tun Razak after Ampang Point. - Hope I get it right.
The other side of the lane jammed as well. Cars moving slowly.
Above right was taken on the same road, slow moving and above left was taken near IJM in front of the National Library.
No signal and simply cut the queue. We also pay the road tax ok!!
Ok, the driver (a lady) did gave signal.. and just simply cut the queue. Manners? You kiss the car, YOU PAY!
It happened everywhere in the world. No matter how high the traffic summons, all rules, this and that.. the blame is put on the drivers. It's all about road etiquette, discipline and safety measures.
Pandulah dengan cermat, ingat orang tersayang.

Selamat Menyambut Bulan Ramadhan

Ramadhan kembali. Sekejap betul masa berlalu. Rasanya macam baru lepas berpuasa dan raya, dah nak puasa lagi hehe.. This is the last year, I will be celebrating ramadhan 'single'. Next year insyaAllah with my husband Mr. Fruitheart.

In facebook, it has been a trend your friends tagging you for cards, pictures, notes and videos. Due to the Ramadhan celebration which is going to be tomorrow 11th Aug, semua sibuk mengucapkan selamat. Sangat meriah. And later, hari raya card and duit raya secara virtual. Sampaikan boleh bagi RM100,000!! Hehe.. Ooh.. not to forget, virtual kuih raya.

Status update in facebook would be something like this:
Nak masak apa la berbuka puasa nanti? Berbuka dengan murtabak Hj. Amin, makan kurma saja untuk berbuka, solat terawikh, akan sambung facebook kemudian.. hehe.. and the list goes on. Yang menaip ini pun tidak terkecuali. Ada juga terfikir, nak masak apa. Tapi selalunya bukan masak pun, mak yang masak kan. Next year, have to do it by myself.. OK, enjoy…

Have Done This.. Have Done That

There goes my weekend, finding more stuff for the 'hantaran'. Today it is already Monday and I'm currently working from home. No, don't envy me. I have to handle few things about my small man's school registration.

On Saturday afternoon, I went to Nilai 3 to search for my 'hantaran' decoration with Mr. Fruitheart, my small man and Auntie Yan.. my neighbour who's in charge to decorate my 'hantaran.' We went to 'Thank U' shop. They have discounts and seriously, I am not that good about decoration. I leave it to Auntie Yan to deco it, and I pay for all the stuff. All I want is, not too many flowers and too much decoration that later would make it a bit messy. Just nice and simple.. the theme color is GOLD. Found the cloth, which in my opinion the nicest one of all. Spent about RM 200 for all of it in 1 hour.

Later, went to Mc Donalds to buy Happy Meal and GCB for both my boys. Fast food lovers!! After we had dinner, tomyam and soup.. Mr. Frui…

Down to 50 Days

50.. F-i-f-t-y.. So, we're down to 50 days until my wedding day. Yes I believe it hehe..I skipped my lunch (again??), my tummy doesn't feel good. Ughh! Actually, I don't feel any good since yesterday. With some personal family issues, which I tried not to think about it. And of course, with few other wedding stuff.. that are still pending. It really took huge space on my mind.

I have just updated my guest list again. Cut here and there. I still can't find any good 'tudung' to wear on my wedding reception. Another thing that really makes my blood go upstairs is the catering after my solemnization event. It was confirmed at first, and 2 weeks ago they said they can't commit. WTH?? So I have to search again! It is frustrating me.

Right about now, I want a good massage and a facial together with manicure/pedicure. But.. no budget, so just forget it. I'll ask my small man to massage me with his little fingers. I'll put some tomatoes on my face and cucumber…

Bridezilla

Here is what I found in the internet:
A bridezilla (a neologistic portmanteau of bride and Godzilla) is a difficult, unpleasant, perfectionist bride who leaves irritated family, friends and bridal vendors in her wake. She is often called greedy, selfish and spoiled, not caring about the people that she hurts to get exactly what she wants on her perfect day.

Am I a bridezilla? Or am I on my way of being one?? I don't think so.. It came to my mind yesterday while me and with my other 3 friends were busy replying our 'goss' mails. I know one of them might be reading this soon.. hehe.. She was the one who did mentioned about bridezilla. Before this I don't know what bridezilla is. Godzilla yes I know. I thought the word bridezilla came from it.. haha.. Yes, I was correct! See above..

If you ask me do I want it to be the most perfect day of my wedding life, yes of course! I have read few stories on the net about this bridezilla thing.. I do feel a bit sca…
