Nasi Ambeng / Ambang

Haven't heard of it?? It is a traditional Javanese dish which is made famous by Malaysian of Javanese descent. 'Nasi ambang' or 'ambeng' (Javanese slang) is traditionally prepared by host family during 'tahlil' or for helpers at family wedding. It is very well known in the Javanese community. Still practise until now.

A serving of 'nasi ambeng' can feed a family of 4 or 5. It is a combination of rice, chicken (kicap or sambal),  fried noodle, fried fish, fermented soybeans, mixed veggie together with spicy dessicated coconut. Yummylicious I would say. It is served on a round tray (dulang) together with banana leaf. They would also prepared it with 'air basuh tangan' (water to wash hands), small cloth, banana leaf, paper and string which is later will be used to wrap the food.

Had not eaten it for quite sometime. Now craving for one.
