Siblings Rivalry

It is common for brothers and sisters to fight. Yes we all know that. I was a kid too and now I am a mother, I fully understand the headache my mother had when I was young. Taking care 6 children is not easy.

Last week Wednesday, I had to work from home because my sister went for an interview. I know I will have a little bit of hard time handling 3 children while doing office work. I have done my house chores earlier, so I just need to look after my toddler and baby. I asked kiddo to look after his sisters while I'm doing my work. He did.

There was no problem at first until my girl saw his brother playing with his iPad. Thank you Apple, you ruined everything. She wants to get hold of the iPad as well so she took it away and played the game his brother was playing - Clash of the Clan. When her brother took out his Lego, she wants that too. And not long after that.. they were screaming at each other and both were crying. One went to the room, closed the door. One was waiting outside, knocking the door while crying out loud. I let them be like that for about sometime. I wanted to see who will give in.

I understand my girl is at the stage where she wants everything to herself and do everything on her own. She wants to do almost everything her brother did too. Usually, there will be yelling and crying before I took over or someone finally give in.

It is so frustrating to watch and hear my children fight with one another. I keep on telling myself, patience Fara. I can't even concentrate with my work so I logged off early. While entertaining my little baby who didn't know what happened to her siblings, I took the iPad away and hide it. There! I almost throw the TV remote control to them. Surprisingly, I don't even yell like I used to. However, I can feel my face becoming hot. I tried controlling myself NOT to do whatever the devil said to do. Syaitan kan memang suka orang marah-marah.

Thank you God for granting me sanity and giving me strength not to do things I regret.

When I sat with them, they're no longer fighting. I told myself, it's a sign. They don't want mommy to do her office work while babysitting. In future, I couldn't work while watching them. As a matter of fact, another 8 months to go. Hold on Fara.

#RememberingMH370 24th March 2014

Sticky post until 28.03.14 Friday.

It is a sad, sad day today. I didn't watched the news on TV last night when Malaysia's Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had a press conference about the flight MH370.

I just knew about it this morning. Mr. Fruitheart told me, PM announced the plane went down into the Indian Ocean.

"Ended it's journey".. a heartbreaking word.

I read on the news, the search is still going on. I do not know how DEEP the Indian Ocean is until I looked at the picture someone posted on twitter. Damn deep! They said it is a tough, rough ocean and the weather is also not good.. making it hard to find the plane wreckage.

And also not forgetting, THANK YOU to the authorities and people who have helped and put in every effort in finding the plane. You've done a great job.

My heart goes out to all the family and friends of those on board, passengers and cabin crew of flight MH370. Stay strong. Al-FATIHAH and deepest condolences.

Grandparents and Grandchildren

It's the TIME again. School holidays. It is only a week school holiday and almost coming to an end. On last Saturday, my father called me and asked when will his grandchildren come home.

You see, long time ago he would've asked me when I will come home. But now he only asked when his GRANDCHILDREN coming home. Do you sense any jealousy there? No right?

Looking back to old memories, I enjoyed everytime we visited our grandparents. Plus, I was the first grandchild on my mother's side. All the attention to me. I was spoiled by my grandparents on my father's side too because my father is the youngest. I always followed my grandparents everytime they went back to Kuala Kangsar. And I always get what I want. See how the evil, spoilt grandchild laugh came out? Unbelievable.

So now when it came to 'spoiling' my children with everything by their grandparents.. emm.. well.. I would say, NO NEED. NO THANK YOU. My father loves to spoil his grandchildren. No longer spoiling me and my other siblings. Kena marah lagi adalah. The attention has diverted to the little-size-boy-and-girls-who-depending-on-mommy-and-wearing diaper.

"Atuk nyumnyum".
"Atuk let's go the shop. I'm hungry."
Atuk, there's a new Lego I like. Later when you give me money for Hari Raya, can I buy it using that money?"
"Yay! Atuk came back."
"Atuk, can I follow?"

Atuk here and atuk there. Everywhere atuk tuk tuk.

I can see the happy wide smile on my parents face when they hear their grandchildren voice. And the 'gedik-gedik' grandchildren expression when their grandparents entertain them. Enjoy the moment while they're still alive. Thank you GOD for giving them the opportunity to spend quality time with their beloved grandparents.

The only enemy grandparents and grandchildren has is the parents.

P/S: I missed my grandparents. May their soul rest in peace.

Favourite Poem of The Week #13 - Loss

Loved Ones
© Laura L. Lewis
Loved ones are precious
I know this for a fact
And when you lose one
It’s like an attack

I've lost some loved ones
To many different things
I hate losing loved ones
But it’s a bell that has to ring

Loved ones are special
I have many I should know
But it just seems
I couldn’t let them go

You try so hard
To hold on
But in one small second
Loved ones are gone

Sometimes at night
I pray for lost loved ones
Even though they won’t come back
This poem is for them the loved ones

Lunch by Agoodmaid

I don't know about everyone else but I always have this issue where and what to have for lunch. Ampang Park is the nearest mall to my office. Don't have much choices there.

There is a food court in the office building and I only went there if I am too lazy to walk to Ampang Park. Other options are Subway which I went every Wednesday because meatball is sub-of-the-day. Dome, San Francisco Coffee, Beast, Porto Romano and others.

Yesterday I decided to try out the food service provided by Agoodmaid. I saw a friend posted it on her IG few months back. I had followed the account since then. Yeah, when it comes to good food.. there's no need to wait. Hehe.

So I had grilled chicken for lunch today. One whole leg with baked macaroni, potato-tomato with mayo as side dishes and a can drink. I am full! Alhamdulillah. I also ordered beef and chicken lasagna one each, two baked macaroni. The lasagna and chicken grilled is RM15 each while baked macaroni is RM12. What else? It was delivered to my office, not to my cubical lah.. with NO delivery charges. How good is that? Oh, there is a minimum order. My area she calculated RM50. You may want to check with her the minimum order first before you place your order.

With good food, good service.. Yes I am a happy customer and will definitely order again. Thank you so much Zura!

P/S: The owner is a lady name Zura. If you want to order, you may follow her IG account.

Left Something For The Kids

The other day, my little brother which is not that little (26 year old man!) tweeted me this:

Life Hacks@ omglifehacks: When your kids are born, reserve them a good e-mail address. send them pictures, notes, etc. Give to them when 18.

I find it interesting. I have accounts in FB, twitter, Instagram, tumblr, Google+.. that's all? If there are other than that, I do not remember. I've closed down my Friendster years ago when FB was a hit. So now I'm thinking, should I create an email account for my 3 children? Or FB, twitter and IG accounts like some other parents did for theirs?

I had posted their stories on my blog, shared their picture on Twitter and Instagram. They even have special folder on my FB for their photos. Maybe I should post their daily activities to their emails so they can read when they are 18. Now that's an idea.

P/S: I hope I have the time even for 5 minutes to post.

The Good Husband

I would be happy whenever Mr. Fruitheart finished his meals I packed for him. Nowdays I woke up early morning, made him breakfast and lunch. Thank God he is not a fussy eater. He could have grilled chicken with mixed veggies everyday!

That's what he said.

However, this wife of him is so dedicated that she decided to add in other meals into the list. Yesterday I made beef tacos. The day before he had chicken grill with mixed veggies. But unfortunately today, I didn't prepare his lunch. I was too tired and I vomitted the night before after I reached home. I think maybe it was something I ate plus lack of sleep and the unhealthy weather. A very good combo to fall sick!

I am lucky that Mr. Fruitheart took care of everything last night. From putting the clothes into the washing machine, hanged it to dry and put the kids to bed. Phew! It was not easy handling a cranky almost 2 year old toddler and a 4 months old baby. While there is a 10 year old kid who needs help with homework too. He managed it very well. Mom was already laying flat. Totally zonked out.

So here I am while writing this, looking for simple and easy under 15 minutes recipe. What to cook?

P/S: Currently looking for a cooking class to join.

Potato Gratin and Homemade Meatball

It feels really good whenever I cooked, they turned out nicely. Last two weeks, I made potato gratin again and rolled my own meatballs. I am still not good in making the meatball gravy by the way. I didn't whisk often making the flour lumpy.

Mr. Fruitheart said it taste different from the first time I made it. It was not creamy.
"You used cheap cream?" he asked me.
"No, I changed it to some other brand."

He smile. OK, I won't changed the ingredients next time. But whatever the taste like, they finished it all. Happy me!

It was my very first time making meatballs and they turned out good, but not like Ikea's meatball. It's not that hard to make. You need to have the right ingredients, mix and roll.

500gm ground beef (minced meat)
1 medium yellow onion, minced or pureed

4 cloves of garlic, minced
1/3 cup bread crumbs (any flavor)
1/4 cup milk
1 egg lightly beaten
1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 cup fresh parsley
1/4 cup grated Parmesan

Gently mixed everything in a bowl. Mixture should be wet but not sticking to your hand. If the mix feels wet, add in some more breadcrumbs. Roll mix into size of a golf ball. Bake 15-20 minutes or until it turned slightly brown. (I didn't baked it, just frozen it for 30-40 minutes). This is to avoid it sticking to one another. Place cool meatballs in ziplock freezer bag and label. It could last up until 3 months!

P/S: I can do this every week. I should google more simple-under-15-minutes-easy-ingredients-frozen-meals. Hehe.

The Plane That Never Arrived - MH370

It has been more than 48 hours now. We are still waiting and hoping for good news. I couldn't imagine how miserable and sad the family of all the passengers are going through now. They do not know the condition of their loved ones. Basically, we all don't know.

I would like to take this opportunity to thanked the authorities who have taken fast action to look for the plane. Also, not forgetting the help we get from other countries as well. I am thankful that during this time we are united in praying for all the passengers safety. To all the family members, stay strong.

P/S: There's still hope. Where are you?

First Attempt in Making Beef Tacos

This was a week ago. Mr. Fruitheart had been busy looking for simple healthy meals for him to bring to the office. He wanted to have it for lunch. He stumbled upon Jamie's Oliver beef tacos. He asked me if it is hard to make it. I looked at the recipe and the steps.. quite easy. Guacamole? How am I supposed to make that?

Oh it is made of avocado. Smile. And there was it's salsa too. 5 minutes job.

Since it was my first time, I took a little extra time in making it. Once I am OK and mastered the recipe and steps, *snap* easy peasy. HEHE.

Fruitheart's version of Beef Tacos

I do not know how to fold the tacos, I just turned the other side of tortilla.

Here is the recipe:

P/S: He told me he could have this everyday.

Open Letter to My Second Daughter Who Will (One day) Have a Boyfriend

Dear Arissa,

You are going to be 2 year old in 2 months time. How time flies. You sure are one clever, smart, loving and not to mention sometimes cheeky and feisty. You have shown me and daddy how to be responsible to your little sister.

However, there are times where you want all the attention from both of us. You know what sweetie, you need to learn what is sharing. You have a big brother and little sister who needs the attention, tender and loving care from us too. I know, you are still young to understand but we need to teach you from now.

You have grown so much to become a very lovable girl. Everyone loves you. You captured others heart and attention with your intelligence and cuteness. You also fast in picking up words which we as adults need to mind our language.

At this age too you know how to do things on your own, or sometimes you INSIST to do it by yourself. You know where to throw the rubbish, where to put dirty clothes, how to wear your own clothes and clean the table. I can see that you want to do what your big brother do. As if you wanted to tell us, "Why abang can do and I can't? I want to do it too."

You also like to do exactly like what we did. You want to tagged the door, opened the grill and even swim in the adults pool! But first you need to learn how to swim. I do not want you to drown. You do know which are your belongings, your little sister's and brother's stuff. But sometimes, you being cheeky.. took away and run. It's OK, it's natural and I told myself it is one of your development.

Now, your most favorite is "Raaaaaniaaaaa.. chak!" It is the way you play with your little sister.

I know it is still early to say this.. but one day you will have a boyfriend. Or not. You might marry someone your daddy has chosen. That could happen, because your daddy will be the one who protect you, your little sister and brother. He will be the one who approves and rejects. He will be your 'wali' insyallah. And for that sweetie, I pray and hope you WILL NOT EVER hide from us who you went out with and who your friends are. Your dad joked about this to me the other day, "I might follow our daughter when she goes on a date. 50 meter far."

That COULD happen. Not just you, but to your other siblings as well.

P/S: Next letter for the little sister.. or might be the big brother.

He is Smokefree!

I am so proud of Mr. Fruitheart. He successfully quit smoking! Bravo!! Congratulations!! *throw confetti*

He slowly quit and finally after the long hard climb, he did it. His secret? Determination and support.

As a reward for him, we had a little 'makan-makan' at Kulcats Barrio. Our second time there but this time my siblings joined us.

I hope and pray that he will NOT touch any ciggies after this. Stay healthy sayang. Finally you did it.

P/S: Now I have to make healthy meals for him.

6KG at 3 Months Old

Last Friday, baby girl went for her monthly checkup. She cried when the Doc examined her. Plus, it was her nap time.
She was furious! Hehe. Sorry sweetie, we had to. When the Doc put her on the weighing machine, she kept on kicking her legs and crying. There.. 6KG! My healthy and chubby baby.
Alhamdulillah, she is in good health. Nothing wrong with her. Only her teary eyes. She still has it and the Doc said it will no longer teary when she's 6 months old. But.. the Doc also mentioned that if she still has it after that and it gets worsen, we need to refer to the eye expert. Maybe they will need to clear the blockage by inserting something I don't remember what was it through her eyes. :(
I was of course scared and worried. I felt uneasy and I really hope the it will be gone by the time she turns 6 months. However, I noticed the teary eyes were not that bad like when she was few days old. It's lessening. I really hope and pray that it will get better.
